Does God still speak to people? And if so, how do we hear His still quiet voice when the world around us is loud and chaotic?

In this episode, we will be talking about hearing God's still quiet voice. Why is this topic important? Because life dishes out challenges and obstacles.

Our family recently experienced one of these life altering challenges - the loss of a job. We started asking the typical questions:
- How are we going to provide for our family?
- Why is this happening to us?
- God, what are you up to?

We will share about our initial reactions after hearing the news, a story from the bible (Samuel's encounter with God's "quiet" voice in 1 Samuel 19), and advice for anyone who is wanting to hear God speak.

Let's keep building faithful families - yours and ours!
Nathan and Nina

Christ commands us not to be anxious (Matthew 6:25). He reminds us that we more valuable than the grass of the fields and the birds of the air.

But if we are being very honest, it is so easy to be consumed with our worries and anxieties. It is challenging to wait on the Lord when it feels like the work is beating us up and keeping us down. When we are hard-pressed, we need to run to God's Word.

The Bible is filled with many scriptures that talk about waiting on Him. The list below is not exhaustive.
Lamentations 3:25 - GOD’S GOODNESS
Psalm 27:14 - STRENGTH AND COURAGE
Isaiah 40:31 - RENWAL
Psalm 130:5-6 - HOPE
Psalm 33:20-22 - HELP AND PROTECTION

In addition to running to God's Word, we should remember times from our past when God has shown up. Our Ebenezer stones, our "reminder stones", help us keep our eyes focused on God's faithfulness in the past and are a reminder that God will continue to be faithful in the future.

“God always keeps His promises” is a family motto that we have repeated often for many years. We started saying this phrase after God fulfilled a very special promise to us many years ago. Listen to end of this podcast to hear all the fun details!

God's Word is filled with promises. Depending on who you ask, there are anywhere between 3,000 and 7,000 promises in the Bible.

The following list is just a few of them:
Romans 10:9-10

 - SALVATION
Psalm 103:12 - THE REMOVAL OF SIN

John 14:16 - THE HOLY SPIRIT

Matthew 4:19 - PURPOSE AND DIRECTION

Matthew 11:28 - REST

James 1:5 - WISDOM
Matthew 6:33 - PROVISION
Psalm 84:11 - NO GOOD THING WILL BE WITHHELD
1 Corinthians 10:13 - OVERCOMING TEMPTATION

John 3:16, 1 John 2:25 - ETERNAL LIFE

John 14:3 - AN ETERNAL HOME

Revelation 12:4

4 - AN END TO DEATH AND SADNESS

2 Timothy 3:12, Matthew 5:10-12 - PERSECUTION

Hebrews 12:7 - DISCIPLINE

One of the most important promises that God gave us is that a Redeemer would come and defeat the problem of sin. Sin impacts all of us. We are so glad that God kept that promise!

In this episode we are spending some time telling you about our story. We share bits and pieces from our college years, early married life, and life overseas.

As we share more about our life and the lessons we are learning today, we thought it would be good to give you some insights into our past.

We believe it is important to share your story. You might say, "But my story is not interesting or important." Don't believe that lie!

God has molded and crafted your story so that you can encourage others who are walking through the valleys and up the mountains that you have already walked.

In this episode, we will be talking about the importance of community. When we came back to the United States, we desperately craved community. That was a hard time in our lives. But God showed up (like He always does) and provided exactly what we needed.

He guided us to a group of people who were doing life together. His people became our people. Although living in community with others is not always easy, it is very rewarding. God communes with us, and He expects us to be community with others.

We also talk about an unlikely ice breaker that we call “Cereal Celebration.” It was amazing to see how God used some boxes of cereal, milk, and spoons to form new bonds and friendship.

Our hope is that if you are looking for community you can find it. And once you have found it, we hope you fight to build stronger bonds with the people God has placed in your life.

What verb do you most commonly associate with the noun church? Over and over, we have heard countless people talk about going to church.

The words we use matter. They shine a light on our hearts regarding the things we believe, consciously and subconsciously. Going emphasizes a location.

Did God intend for church to be a place? Did God ask us to emphasize a particular location? Or is church meant to be more than that?

In this episode, we explain why we believe the "just going to church" mindset is not what God intends His people. If going to church is not the pinnacle experience, what does God want from His people and for His people?

God's Word shines light on this very topic. Let's take a look at who the early church was and what people who made up the church did in the book of Acts (Acts 2:42-47).

Hebrews 10:19-25 reminds us that we should not forsake assembling together. All believers make up the universal Church. God clearly wants His followers to live life with other believers in local churches.

In this episode, we continue to talk about what it means to be the church and what Christ has command His church to do.

We asked some important questions:
1. Should church be reproducible?
2. Should church multiply?

Throughout this episode, we play a game that we call "Church Amnesia." We invite you to play along with us.

In this episode, we are talking about six simple questions that guide many of our family's discussions about God's word.

The goal of these six questions is to provide a simple and reproducible method to learn from and meditate on God's written word - the Bible. The simplicity of the questions allow almost any person to participate, regardless of age or reading ability. The reproducibility of this method allows for almost anyone to facilitate a local group.

These are the questions:
1. What are these verses about?
2. What do we learn about God?
3. What do you find most interesting?
4. Why are these verses still relevant for our lives today?
5. What is this Scripture asking us to obey?
6. With whom should we share these verses?

We wanted to give you a special treat today. Our oldest three daughters will be apart of the podcast as we give an example of how to facilitate a group by using the six questions.

Be sure to listen to the end! There is a special outtake that cracked us up. Some of us still talk with our hands while we record our podcast.

Whether you are traveling the globe or crossing your street, it is important to "finish the race" well. Sometimes those last fifteen steps are the difference between victory or defeat. If the enemy can't stop you from starting the race, he will do his best to prevent you from finishing the race. What stops us from finishing? Sometimes our pride. Sometimes our rebellious disobedience. And, honestly, sometimes we just don't know how to finish well. In this episode, we will talk about ... - various parts of life that are included in the race - the importance of knowing WHAT, HOW, and WHY - 2 Timothy 4:1-8 How can we pray for you? pray@ncouragenspire.com---- Scripture quotations are from The ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), copyright © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers.
We all have hopes, dreams, and goals for our lives, marriages, and children. Although the time, effort, and energy we put into our relationships today does make a difference, it does not provide a guarantee. We have to realize that today's success does not guarantee future success. Equally important, today's failures do not guarantee future failures. We must continue to labor in love, day in and day out. We must continue to labor in love, because it is the right thing to do, not because we have a guarantee of a future outcome. As we live out Christ-focused, Bible-centered lives, we need to let God words shape us:- Romans 10:13 - Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. - Matthew 6:33 - But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.- Matthew 5:44 - But I say to you , Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you- Matthew 11:28 - Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.- John 14:13-14 - Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. How can we pray for you? pray@ncouragenspire.com---- Scripture quotations are from The ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), copyright © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers.
There are so many daily barriers to consistency - laziness, busyness, miscommunication, lack of communication, etc. And sometimes there are catastrophic events that cause us to be inconsistent - death, loss of a job, sickness, and depression.Despite all the challenges and obstacles, it is worth fighting for consistency.
Clean Day is not the most celebrated event in our home. We greatly appreciated the results of a clean home, but we don't always enjoy the process that we must take to achieve that result. We can lean towards two extremes, total chaos or social media "picture perfect." In this episode, we talk about finding the balance of showing God honor (by cleaning) as we steward what He has given us, while allowing friends, family, and our faith community into our home when everything is not put in its place. And even more importantly, we talk about spiritual cleansing. What if the issue in our home is not toys that are laying on the floor, but rather sin that has been allowed in? What if we have a spiritual mess that needs to be dealt with?We also provide an example prayer that focuses on cleansing and blessing each room of our home. How can we pray for you? pray@ncouragenspire.com---- Scripture quotations are from The ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), copyright © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers.
According to a 2018 study, American families only spend an average of 37 minutes of quality with each other each weekday. We live in a world that is competing for our time. With so much competition for our kiddos' (and our) time and attention, how do we develop strong family values? If who we spend the most time with impacts our values, we need to pay close attention to whom we are with and how much time we spend.Being around people with Christ-centered, biblical values helps us make a difference in a dark and dying world.

In this episode, we had a great conation with Dr. Adam Hughes, the senior pastor of our church. We answered two important questions:What is God's Word? The Bible is God's written word. Composed of 66 books, the Bible tells us who God is and what His plan is for His creation. In John 1, we see Jesus described as the Word of God. Both are important to our lives. Why is God's Word important for building faithful families? Because God's written word tells us who Jesus Christ is. In addition, the Bible tells us God's plan of salvation, how believers can grow in salvation, how we can be spiritual fed, and how we can resist temptation. This is part 1 of a two part conversation. In episode 24, we will discuss further with Pastor Adam about practical ways to incorporate God's Word into our lives.

As parents, we are given the responsible to lay a strong foundation for our kiddos. That foundation is leading to a point where we launch our children into the world. In this podcast, Nathan and Nina reached out to hear from other people who have already launched their kiddos or will be launching in the next year. We reflected on the responses provided to the following questions:1. What things did you teach that proved to be very helpful as your children prepared to leave your home?2. What is something you taught/focused on that did not make as big of a difference as you had hoped?3. What advice do you have for parents still 10 or more years away from a child leaving? 4. What advice do you have for parents with children leaving in the next couple of years?5. How do you support your kiddos after they move into their next life phase?Do you have a prayer request that we can pray for? If so, sent a message to pray@ncouragenspire.com and we will pray for you.Do you have a question or a topic you would like us to talk about? Tell us more. Send an email to connect@ncouragenspire.com.---- Scripture quotations are from The ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), copyright © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers.
Songs play an important role in our worship of God. We have a chance to worship God through song both personally and corporately (with other worshipers). In this podcast, Nathan interviews Trey, a worship leader who equips college students to lead other students.Nathan and Trey talk about:- that worship is a heart issue and it should reflect our love and adoration of God- that worship is not limited to songs and music, but that it can be expressed in many different ways- that not all music is great for leading a congregation in worship- that worship should be based on God's truth, be familiar to the congregation, and focus on the God, not ourselves

Brokenness is an all too common part of our human experience. Sometimes we experience brokenness because of our personal sin. Sometimes we experience brokenness because we live in a broken world. As followers of Christ, we are called to walk alongside other believers and those who have yet believed. We are called to encourage and speak truth in love. We can not neglect the importance of prayer and God's word in this matter. Both are equally important for those who are experiencing brokenness and those who are walking with a friend, family member, or acquaintance through these challenging times.
