This episode asks a big question. To answer it we will discuss three topics: 1) Intolerance, people & Christians; 2) Being made in the image of God; and 3) The Garden and Jesus' Invitation. We've all received invitations that we've declined because there was something else we believed was of greater value. Perhaps there's an invitation that's been sent and you haven't opened it yet...it might be the most important invitation you've ever received. Tune in to hear more.

In this episode we consider hope and despair and how we are shaped by them. Those who've devoted their lives to studying the human condition tell us that hope is essential to human life. In the context of a true story, we examine how whatever you attach your hope to, that will direct your life. This true story unfolds one woman's struggle with her biggest hope crashing her into despair. And how an enduring hope came in a surprising way. Whatever it is you hope in to guard your soul when life is confusing, painful or difficult, make sure you choose a hope able to sustain you when life is painful and doesn't make sense. If your hope only works when life is good, it's not a sure and certain hope.

There seem to be no end to conflicts and relational messes that flows from the ways humans can easily criticize and judge one another. Whether via news outlets or social media sources, we're all faced with overwhelming evidence that none of us are able to know and fully comprehend everything there is to be know in order to judge accurately and fairly. And while we've all hear the phrase "Don't judge me," do you know who originally said the words "Do not judge" or in what context those words were spoken? Join us for part 2 of the ugly, the bad and the good of judgment, and learn, if we aren't to judge others, then what should we do? Join us as we seek to consider these things in an honest and life-giving manner.

Join us for part 2 of the ugly, the bad and the good of judgment, and learn, if we aren't to judge others, then what should we do? Join us as we seek to consider these things in an honest and life-giving manner.

Part 4 is the final installment in the series about how we are shaped by judgment. When we've been wronged, it's natural for us to hunger for justice. We long for it in a deep and profound way. And yet when we're the one who did wrong, ever noticed how quick we are to hope for mercy? This episode depicts two very real courtroom scenarios to help us recognize the reality of what we face and what is possible. Join us as we consider what can really and truly be good about judgment.

As we explore the ways we are shaped, today we're beginning to look at a new series around our unique, individual minds, discussing our mental maps, how they are shaped, and how profoundly they influence the ways we act and react. Our maps are messy, unique, and have incomplete and inaccurate parts that impact how we engage in life whether intellectually, relationally, emotionally or spiritually. And that our mental maps are like an ever-changing landscape with opportunity to intentionally grow and develop and make corrections.
As we continue looking at the ways we're being shaped and who we are becoming, today's episode considers how the real you is physically embodied, embedded in relationships which, let's face it, can be so messy. And that we also considered our greatest struggle is that since birth we very naturally worked to create a mental map that has ourselves in the center. Which is exactly why we need help outside ourselves. And that the real you is most profoundly shaped by the thoughts you continually think, which wire into with the longings, desires, fears and affections of your heart. And the contents of your heart is what drives your life.

In spite of our best efforts to exert control over our lives, we all experience circumstances and seasons where life feels terribly out of control. Anger, fear, anxiety, depression and more are often accompanied by an acute sense of overwhelm. So where do you go in these times? What do you turn to? I've tried lots of the typical remedies and found they only temporarily numb or distract, but they don't make anything actually better. It was the real life testimonies of those who had gone before me, that encouraged me to find the true source of hope and help.

As we consider the ways we are shaped, today we consider the stories we tell ourselves, and how powerfully they shape our lives. Do the stories you tell yourself keep you stuck in ways that feel enslaving? Stories based on your past or your own understanding, stories that lead to anxiety, fear, worry & doubt? We get to choose the stories we tell ourselves. What if you chose to tell yourself stories that lead you to trust in God so that you can walk in courage and strength? If the stories you keep telling yourself lead to chronically into discouragement and overwhelm, perhaps it's time to tell a different sort of story.

Join us as we look as the difference between our brain and our minds, what is the difference and what is the role in our habits. It's been said that a person's habits are the number one determiner of a person's quality of life. And yet habits are something we've learned to do without thinking. We know that good habits help us and bad habits keep us stuck repeating what we hate. So where are those habits helping you and where are they keeping you stuck in painful patterns on repeat?

This episode begins by taking a look at what is real for us, then moves into the sources of wisdom & counsel. We wrap up by looking at the outcomes of the two main trajectories of counsel because wherever I believe deceptions or lies, I will be held in some sort of bondage or slavery. The only way to uproot lies and the hold on our lives is with truth.

We've all fallen for lies, and they always promise something they actually can't deliver. But once we've believed them and begin to build thoughts and choices around them, they become an integral aspect of our habits and choices. Many things in life have beginnings and endings, but in various ways we struggle to know when to end things. This struggle usually ties to a deep wound and various fears. What keeps us stuck often is that where we have built habits and patterns of how we think and how we do things, we have a natural bias to believe that what we think is true, even in the face of information to the contrary. Our mind and hearts can be like a darkened room, and we desperately need light. The true Light that represents knowledge, truth, insight, and wisdom in order to begin to discover the lies in our own hearts and minds that we believe. Recognizing a lie is always the first step toward transformation.

In today's discussion, we delve into the intricate nature of control, exploring its promises, illusions, and the inherent desires it triggers within us. There's a widespread belief that controlling our circumstances leads to comfort and happiness, yet this notion is often met with the chaotic reality of life. We're tempted to believe that controlling situations and people will fulfill our desires, but this pursuit often leads to stress and conflict. Instead, there's a call to trust in the One who created all things, acknowledging that God holds ultimate control, even amidst life's uncertainties. By surrendering our desires for control and embracing trust, we find freedom and love that transcends selfish ambition. Through introspection and reliance on God's guidance, we're challenged to confront the lies of absolute control and embrace a path of faith and love.

Even the most confident people struggle with insecurity though they may be good at masking it. We hate when we act out of insecurity, and yet it seems to be such an integral part of ur personalities. These emotions and reactions seemed to just spring up as though they have a life of their own.As we consider some of the ways we are shaped, today we're talking about insecurity, the roots, and how do we begin the process of healing.

This episode delves into the intricate relationship between fear, the future, and faith, and how our past shapes our perceptions of the future, and considers how our past regrets or future anxieties detract from our ability to live fully in the present. Drawing from ancient wisdom and truth held in the book of Isaiah, highlighting the transformative power of faith in overcoming fear and finding peace in the present moment. It challenges listeners to replace fearful thoughts with truths from scripture, ultimately empowering them to choose faith over anxiety in navigating life's uncertainties.

Most of us just live our lives however we've learned to do in the past, that is until we hit some sort of a roadblock. A season of pain, confusion that feels like a dead end with no way out. We feel the pain and don't know how to effect any real change. These season feel an awful lot like a wrestling match. We work so hard, drawing on every ounce of strength, skill, wisdom and insight seeking to overcome our opponent. In a wrestling match someone always ends up pinned on the mat, unable to move. Completely defeated. Which is a great analogy for those painful seasons and situations in our lives.Join us for this series as we explore through the stories of Joanie and Jenny, two cousins that will provide opportunities for us to explore our own thoughts and emotions, and ways we find ourselves painfully stuck with what seems no way of escape. We hope you'll click subscribe and join us for this series.

Emotions have enormous potential to shape our lives. We all experience lots of emotions every day, and the negative emotions are the ones we most often struggle to process in healthy ways. Even as small children we learn and employ a wide variety of coping strategies to help us manage our emotions. Negative emotions are like an indicator light, signaling something needs our attention. If we learn & keep practicing unhealthy coping strategies the pain we experience and possibly transformation to others grows. An essential part of maturing is learning and applying effective strategies to moderate and manage our emotions. The means by which we regulate our emotions is critical in shaping how we live and engage with others.

Within our souls is a sort of massive library which includes things like memories, thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Because humans are meaning-maker, when these first occurred our minds worked to draw conclusions about and assign meaning, the sum of which plays into our sense of self, our beliefs and identity. Nearly all of this operates in the realm of subconscious functions. What lies hidden is essentially always connected with the majority of thoughts, emotions and reactions that emerge from us that we find surprising, and often frustrating and painful. So what's the solution? Join us for more.

Fear and anxiety are things we all face as we wrestle with the storms of circumstance and uncertainty. Often times we discover vital lessons in the midst of familiar stories and even in the routine activities of life. I've learned some things about myself and my walking with God both from neighborhood walks with my ridiculously over-anxious dog and also from an ancient song you've likely heard read often at funerals. We never actually graduate from learning lessons, about ourselves and about life.
The more I learn about how the brain works, I continue to be amazed at the similarities and analogies to trees, plants, and yes, even poky, thorny weeds. In today's episode we consider lessons from thorns & weeds, and how much they can teach us about the thoughts we continue to think.Do you know that thoughts are a physical structure that literally take up real estate in your brain? And the more we repeat these thoughts the more powerful and resilient these structures become. Join us for a glimpse into what this looks like in our everyday lives.

If everyone is doing what is right in their own eyes, does that mean that we each live out a selfish, self-centered view of the world? We hear the word "self-righteous" thrown around with disdain, but to whom does it apply? And what's the connection between selfishness, self-righteousness and how those flow easily into judgment others? Does the current media and cultural focus on self-actualization lead to life that is truly good? What we believe about these things profoundly shapes how we live and who we become.

We all want to believe that our lives and our stories matter. And yet we naturally have times of wondering if our lives are just directed by random happenings and chance. Whether you feel like a minuscule minnow or a massive blue whale, both live in the expanses of vast oceans teaming with other creatures. It can easily leave us wondering if our lives really matter in the grand scale of thousands of generations that have existed on the earth.Questions and stories can help us do the work of processing some big questions, which is where we are headed in today's episode.

When people talk about the heart, sometimes they mean the literal organ that sits in your chest and pumps blood. But in large part Western cultures tend to relegate mentions of the heart as relating to things like feelings & emotions, sentiments & romance; or we might use heart to describe the ways someone works at doing something difficult as working with all their heart, or an athlete who plays with heart. But when it comes to how we live, the function of the heart is much more than how we feel or the level of grit. The reason our heart matters so much is because it actually shapes and directs our actions, choices and behaviors. Tune in to catch some thought-provoking truths about how our heart shapes who we become.

That awful feeling of isolation, disconnection, of feeling terribly alone can come whether or not we are in physical proximity to other people. We all struggle with loneliness in different ways. The causes are many, and current statistics indicate the numbers of people who struggle with loneliness has grown significantly, causing some to express loneliness as a growing public health concern. Just which demographics are the loneliness? What are the implications to physical health and social relationships? Today's episode will answer these questions and look at what's suggested what is actually helping those struggling with loneliness.

So what is the way forward into true and lasting hope? That's where we're headed in today's episode and beyond.

The family and friends that you love and are about, but if you're honest, you dread getting together with them. There's just something about how they talk and act that seems to bring out the worst in you. How do I know this about you? It's because I have those kind of people in my life, too. Everyone does. But what do we do to prepare our own hearts that may enable us to begin to see them and respond to them in new ways? If you can relate tune in and join us for a timely holiday season conversation.

The end of the year is less than 2 weeks away. In this season we are busy with thoughts of gifts that we will give and perhaps of resolutions you will make. We can get so distracted with the busyness of the season and surviving the gauntlet. Can you relate? In today's episode we're talking about gifts and resolutions, but not just any gifts, and not the kinds of resolutions that quickly evaporate into failure. No, the gifts and resolutions we're talking about today are the kind that shape and transform our entire lives with deep fulfillment, meaning and purpose.

In the season leading up to Christmas, a word frequently used and accurately, is busy. But now that the gifts have been unwrapped and meals finished, pit's a great time to pause from all the grown-up tasks and to-do lists. To relish for a few moments in the sweet child-like joy of kids that goes beyond toys. What lasts is more than receiving of presents, but delighting in the gift of presence. I remember very few gifts I received as a child, but I'll always cherish how it felt to gather with those I loved. In today's episode, we'll explore some ideas learned through a child's perspective about hope, trust and the what God intends for us to experience in His loving presence, which far exceeds and presents.

And neither did it stay entirely hidden. Maybe sugar is your thing; maybe it's something else. It promises to be what you need to be okay, but leaves you worse off than when you started. It's not a story I was excited to share, but I hope someone finds hope and encouragement, and chooses to respond in faith to find freedom.

What does the Bible have to say about our imagination? This episode considers these questions and more to see what hope and healing might be found in our lives.

We all naturally thing about the future. Sometimes it's with anticipation and delight. Other times it's with a sense of anxiety and fear. An integral aspect of our human mind is the way we dream and desire. We take in information and stories. And in recent episodes we talked about the power of our imaginations. How they can be used for both good or bad. How they can shape our views of life. In today's episode, our focus in on the ways we think and use our mind, and it's effect on who we become. So much has been said in recent decades about self-esteem, particularly where it is low. And the term "narcissist" has been used with increasing frequency in the last few years. How and where do we learn to have a healthy view of self? Join us for a thought-provoking discussion around how your thoughts and imaginings impact who you become.

Our thoughts have tremendous power. But how often to we stop to examine and consider, are they true, are they helpful, where does this thought lead to, is it into a place of light and hope? Or into a place of darkness?Join us for a thoughtful discussion on the necessity of testing our thoughts, and the danger of just accepting and entertaining any thought that arises.

We all have built a great many habits in our lives. Some work for us. Some really don't. And sometimes we don't set aside time to stop to consider what's working for us and what isn't. It's so easy and natural to keep ourselves on autopilot that we aren't even aware of things we are doing to exhaust ourselves or create conflicts in relationships of people that are important to us.In today's episode we're taking a look at the value of a fresh perspective or the possibility of making even small changes in our thoughts and habits that can have a powerful impact for better or for worse. Join us for a thoughtful look at the value of questions you might want to consider for yourself.

A frustrating facet of our human nature is the ways we can feel stuck. We want to grow, change, develop, mature. We want to experience deep transformation in our relationships with God and with other people. And often we wrestle against invisible bonds, that in spite of our desire to change, and repeated efforts to change, we end up repeating the same annoying, painful, frustrating patterns. But why? We invite you to tune in to today's episode as we discuss things we can be blind to that keep us stuck, and God's solution for how to break free.

Did you know the average adult human has somewhere between 6,000 and 70,000 thoughts per day. Researchers estimate that 90% are repetitive thoughts (easy to see why those are impactful!). But we also have new thoughts as well as transitional thoughts. We have so much we may be processing and thinking on, we shouldn't be surprised that we all experience times where our own thoughts confuse us. But what should we do and what is helpful to know about our thoughts. Today we explore a simple conceptual idea to help us understand an aspect of our thinking. And we will consider the Helper that's available for us to turn to. I invite you to tune in and give some thought to your thoughts.

There are certain thoughts you think often. Things you replay and rehearse in your mind. If they were upbeat and positive they'd be ones you could easily live with. But the ones we are talking about today aren't. In fact, the kinds of thoughts we're talking about easily and often lead us into feeling anxious, angry, afraid, resentful, and frankly, miserable! They seem to have a life and trajectory of their own, as though you can't do anything to stop or refute them. You suffer because you don't know what else to do. In today's episode we'll talk about thought patterns of common persistent negative thoughts, and consider truth to help transform them.

Continuing our series of episodes centered on the human mind, and what has a positive impact on our thoughts versus what impacts our minds negatively. And music happens to have some profound impacts on our brains. In today's episode we'll look at a summary of some significant impacts of music on our minds, take a brief look into the origin of music, and the discuss a very specific action step that has produced some powerful results in all those I've shared who choose to do it. By the way, this action step not only works when life is good, it may be the most powerful when you are facing pain, confusion, heartache or difficulty.

We've all had moments where we keeping turning over certain thoughts in our mind that cause great anguish and suffering, emotionally and physically. We can literally cause either damage or healing based on what we continually think on. This has been much researched and well documented. In fact, what you deliberately fix your thoughts on is so central to how you live and who you become, that both sacred and secular texts speak about this reality. In fact there are some popular voices out there today wanting to teach to subscribe to their methodology. But, since what you fix your mind on is so important, wisdom would want to know what God has to say about this topic. If that's you, then tune in with us for today's episode of Unleash Mind & Heart Transformation.

The thoughts we think literally affect the form and function of your brain. Our mind, meaning what we think about, alters the physical structure of the brain. Humans have described how they feel; brain scans now prove what people could only before describe experientially. In today's episode we will discuss two specific thought patterns; one which wires your brain for pain, the other for joy. What's exciting is that brain scans now reveal evidence which reflects the truth and wisdom long captured in the teachings of Scripture. the Bible is the collective wisdom of the inspired Word of God, penned by 40 authors over a span of 2,000 years, and is loaded with instruction, counsel, encouragement and exhortation. What we are to think on and fix our minds on occupies a great many verses in both Old and New Testament. The Bible is not a dusty old, out-dated, out of touch book... it is God-breathed, it is living and active, and it is powerful to demolish the thought patterns that keep us feeling stuck and unable to break free.

We all have ongoing conversations with ourselves, and no that doesn't make you crazy. But not every voice we hear should be automatically trusted and responded to. It's important to ask what road is this voice leading me down? Is it one of discouragement, doubt, despair, or shame? Or does it speak of life, hope, truth, encouragement? When we follow lies we becomes fools. We make poor choices that lead us into needless suffering. So what's the alternative? Join us for today's episode and consider for yourself what voices you want to heed. Also, a short announcement that we will take a two week break for some R&R and be back with the next episode of Unleash Mind&Heart Transformation on June 5, 2025. Thanks for tuning in.

In this episode, we explore kindness as a reflection of God’s character and how it transforms our lives. Discover why, before true kindness can be given, it must first be received. And how God’s incredible kindness—seen in creation, life, and the gift of salvation through Jesus—sets the foundation for our actions. That choosing to cultivate kindness is a deliberate act of love.
Have you ever wanted to have a meaningful conversation with someone but you were struggling to process some weighty things and wanted to wait to speak until you felt you could better express things that deeply matter? That's where I found myself this week... wrestling, thinking, praying, writing notes, outlining possible episode drafts... I struggled to be able to express soul-deep realities in ways that might be helpful and meaningful. The matters of the soul, the sense of SELF we each posses are matters that matter a lot to God. So I am waiting, praying, and seeking to be still before I resume sharing this part of my story.

In recent episodes I've been sharing in real time my own experience of a painful emotional reaction to someone I love that was sharp and took that person and me very much by surprise. In running to Jesus to confess and seek forgiveness, He has been at work in my life bringing clarity in many ways. Around this issue, yes. But more importantly around my life's work and the aim of this show, the Lord was speaking in these weeks of waiting. A wonderful new clarity of purpose has crystallized. A new show description was written. this episode feels like re-launching the show and I am utterly amazed at God's kindness, goodness and faithfulness. As you listen to these words, I pray the Holy Spirit does a supernatural work to carry any parts of this that He desires to use to mold and shape you to know and trust Him more fully. SDG

How we think and how we feel in any moment or day powerfully shapes and shifts our lives, for better or for worse. Often what dominates our consciousness is our experience of life in that moment. How am I feeling? How am I being treated? What do I desire? What do I crave? What do I feel I desperately need and still lack? What do I think we truly satisfy me? What do I dread? What am I afraid of? How do I know the right decision to make? What will happen if I do/don’t do this thing? Does this dialog sound familiar?Psychologists may use the word agency to describe your awareness of you. It is your capacity to possess sense and reason, to have desires, to make choices and pursue a certain course, and encompasses your interactions with other people in daily life. The field of psychology as a science looks at observable behaviors and mental processes, and believes the soul to be a metaphorical or philosophical construct. God however, who gives life and breath, knows all. He knows that He crafted each human with a soul, which for a season is housed in our physical bodies, but which will exist into eternity. In fact in Ecclesates 3:11 it says that God has placed eternity in the hearts of men. Our souls will live forever.Amid the plethora of philosophies offered in the world, there is only one way for us to experience true, deep, lasting transformation of mind and heart. Join us for a thoughtful discussion about this today.

So many live in fear of trying to get into God's good graces but sensing they will never measure up. If you can relate to this, tune in for today's episode where we look at what God says about favor and acceptance. What if you believe something about this that isn't true (according to God, of course)? Would you want to know what God says is true? I invite you to join me for an honest look at what God says about how to get His favor and acceptance.

No human is exempt from its lure. There are seasons and situations that cause frustration and headache that easily and naturally draws toward self-pity. When we are there, it seems the most reasonable and normal thing to do. To muse on and think about what happened. To allow it to replay in our minds in a looping fashion, with each replay regenerating within the same feelings and physiology that we suffered when it originally happened. The question is not: will self-pity ensnare me? The real question is: Is it helpful to my soul to remain in self-pity, and is it God's best for me? I invite you to join me as we consider together how deeply we suffer from allowing ourselves to remain in this painful loop, and how can we break free and experience the fullness and joy of the freedom Jesus died to provide for you and me.

Your mind is constantly working, thinking, processing, measuring, choosing. It never stops. Even when you are asleep it is still actively working to sort, store and make meaning about ideas, information and experiences. But can you trust everything you think? But when these become a grudge we hold against someone, and when bitterness brews inside us toward them, what are we to do? Today's episode is about why we form grudges, what causes them, how they impact us over time, and what does God's solution for us when we recognize that bitterness from a grudge has taken root in our lives.

Fakes. Copies. Copycats. Replicas. Spoofs. These aren't any new to us. Long before our time, people have encountered imitations which, may look deceptively good, but they still aren't the real deal. In the last episode I promised to share the two types of wisdom. A good friend asked if I might consider adding one more episode before sharing the two types of wisdom to talk about authentic versus counterfeit. It seemed an excellent idea. So today may be a shorter episode, but the implications of this contrast touch virtually every area of our lives and the multitude of decisions we're continuously making. I invite you to tune in and give some thought around this matter of authentic versus counterfeit.

Life is full of all sorts of matters that require us to make countless choices each day. The is process is something we are so accustomed to that we are largely unaware of how many decisions we make. Many decisions are automated because we have built habits that set up pre-determined choices. Other choices are ones we are aware of the decision-making process. I would assume that most people, perhaps everyone, want to make what will turn out to be good decisions with good outcomes. In the process of choosing, we are working to filter out information to help us.But what would change if you knew that were literally just two types of wisdom, and that each sort of wisdom is promised to result in certain types of outcomes? What if one type of wisdom that is most commonly accepted, is actually not sound, accurate nor reliable? Would you want to know the difference? In the previous episode the topic was Unmasking the Fake: Counterfeit vs Authentic. In a world rife with lies and deceptions, it is worth discussing the true or authentic wisdom from God vs the counterfeit that gives the appearance of wisdom but actually produces outcomes we don't know to anticipate. If you want to give some deep thought around the two sources of wisdom according to God's Word, tune in to today's episode.
